Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Emile Henry Gratinee Bowls, Set of 2, WhiteCustomer Review: Lovely in every way Summary: 5 Stars
These bowls are beautiful and well designed; you can't really ask for more. With their glossy white surfaces and elegant profile, they are suitable for guest use and display. Also -- very important for gratin dishware -- they clean like a dream! The baked-on crust of cheese simply glides off under the flow of hot water, assisted by very gentle scrubbing. I was shocked to find that these bowls are more easy to clean than Pyrex, Corningware, and Corelleware, which are my usual go-to standard for fast clean-up.
Each bowl is perfectly sized for a French onion soup portion for lunch with a salad or perhaps some quiche. The bowls are not large enough for a standalone entree-sized dinner portion.
Description of Emile Henry Gratinee Bowls, Set of 2, WhiteIdeal for onion soup with browned cheese on top or for baking pot pies, these two 16-ounce gratinée bowls are a traditional French shape and have smooth exteriors that makes them welcome in contemporary kitchens. They can go directly from freezer to oven, into the microwave, under the broiler, and through the dishwasher without harming their glossy, lead-free glaze, which does not absorb odors or moisture and is so hard it will not crack, discolor, or scratch--even if food is cut on it. They measure 5-1/2 inches in diameter and 2-1/2 inches high and have handles to keep thumbs out of the soup. Since 1850, Emile Henry cookware and bakeware have been made in Burgundy, where a unique clay is kiln-fired into a ceramic unsurpassed for conducting and retaining heat. Prized worldwide, Emile Henry products come in a wide range of colors, from the earth tones (with creamy interiors) of the rustic Le Potier line to the bright hues (with white interiors) of the Couleurs line, of which these all-white bowls are gleaming examples. Each piece is stamped with the year it was made and the initials of the craftsman responsible for its perfection and carries a one-year warranty against defects. --Fred Brack Ideal for onion soup with browned cheese on top or for baking pot pies, these two 16-ounce gratinée bowls are a traditional French shape and have smooth exteriors that makes them welcome in contemporary kitchens.
